For 22 years, Tribble served as the Editor of the Crab Orchard Poetry series, published by Southern Illinois University Press. In that time, as in his capacity as Managing Editor of The Crab Orchard Review, Jon Tribble played an unparalleled role in bringing hundreds of American literary voices into more prominent view. December 3 would have been Jon’s 59th birthday. We want to take this opportunity to honor his incredible legacy by funding an endowment that will allow SIU press to offer an award in Jon Tribble’s name.
We need your help. We need a total of $25,000 in order to endow a fund that can annually offer $1,000 to a poet in perpetuity. Think of the diversity of voices that Jon Tribble ushered onto the pages of the Crab Orchard Series and the Crab Orchard Review. Who we read today, and what we think about the possibilities for American literature, has been shaped by the work of Jon Tribble. Think how much richer and more wonderful our cultural and literary landscapes are as a result of his years of diligent labor and care. Will you please consider donating what you can? A small group of poets have already pledged $500 each, to give us an $8,000 start on this campaign. Each gift of $1,000, $500, $250, or even $25 gets us closer to our goal of securing Jon Tribble’s legacy of supporting American poets in tangible ways.
