The SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Baja competition tests students to design, build, and compete in multiple, punishing challenges that are meant to see the true strength of a team’s car. Hundreds of schools from around the world come together to see who has the best Baja vehicle. Competing in this competition gives us students irreplaceable hands-on experience and the ability to network with major manufacturing companies.
Our mission is to broaden the student experience here at SIU with the production of a competitive Baja vehicle by inspiring creativity, building leadership and technical skills while building a strong engineering community on and off campus.
After following a previous year of design and testing, our club is working on producing a more competitive Baja vehicle. We are starting from scratch this year to test new frame and gearbox design to compensate for past years’ mistakes of weight distribution and weight reduction.
You can help us accomplish this goal by donating and helping us raise to our goal of $5,000. This money will allow us to not compensate perfection for price. With this money, it will allow us to reach our goal of building a rolling chassis by the end of fall semester, in order to leave the spring with testing and refining. We appreciate anything you can contribute and sincerely thank you for taking an interest in our club.
