ASCE Design Teams

The American Society of Civil Engineers is the Registered Student Organization under which the Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge design teams fall.  Over the past few years, both of our teams have been significantly improving.  In 2015 the Concrete Canoe team placed first at the Mid Continent Student Conference for the first time ever.  They then moved on to compete at the National level, hosted by Clemson, for the first time in SIU history.  In 2016, the Concrete Canoe team again won the regional competition and advanced to Nationals in Tyler, Texas, and moved up 5 places from the year before.  In 2016, the Steel Bridge team also placed first at the Mid-Continent Student Conference, which allowed them to qualify for Nationals which was hosted by Brigham Young University in Utah, a feat that had not been accomplished in nearly ten years.  The materials for both the Canoe and the Bridge are costly, and registration, transportation, and lodging for three separate conferences are quite expensive as well.  We rely on the kindness of generous donors such as yourself to allow us to continue our successes.  Both of the teams provide real world, practical experience, and also promote team work, which are skills that cannot always be taught in the classroom.  Thank you for your consideration.
